Freezing cold next week
THE cold snap snapped back on the snow next week.
“Cold rains” will be accompanied by frost and cold fog starting Tuesday – with the opportunity to sprinkle white stuff.
The January 24 charts show a snowfall of between 50 and 60 percent in the Scottish Highlands, with a chance of 25 percent in northern England.
Mercury will also fall sharply, to zero in the southeast, -1C in the Midlands, and -2C in other parts of Wales.
A long-term forecast for the Met Office at the end of February states:
Heavy rains are expected to occur in the northwest, especially after this period, while the southeastern east may experience heavy rainfall, especially at the beginning of the season.
“Strong winds, especially in the north.
“Temperatures should continue to rise slightly. Some temperatures are still expected, which poses a risk of occasional snowfall, especially in the northern mountains.”
