This Ontario high school teacher mailed handwritten letters to each of her 80 students. Here's why

An Ontario high school teacher wanted her students to know that someone cared about them during this difficult time, so this month, she sent a handwritten note to each of them.

Iman Al-Areibi, a three-year lecturer at HB Beal Secondary School in London, said: “I wanted to smile at them.

“As I write this, I can see the finale and I can see how they feel when they receive the letter when their name is on it.”

Al-Areibi posted 60 last week and 20 others this week.

Many of Al-Areibi students have been thanking him via email, he said.

“It made me feel like I had done something that really changed these students during the time we were locked up and we were no longer connected,” he said.

Meredith Lewkowitz, one of the students who received a letter of appreciation, was very grateful to the teacher for her kindness.

“The card was very important because it showed how much they cared for us as students and for our well-being,” says Meredith.

Among other things, a letter from her teacher stated: “I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for the wonderful year that has just begun.

Al-Areibi said the letters were meant to comfort the students because the COVID-19 epidemic continues to affect daily life.

“I wanted her to feel like things were going well,” said the teacher, who is delighted that the students returned to class on Monday shortly after the start of the 2022 semester. as a result of Ontario epidemic laws.

“I know how difficult it has been for them to stop connecting with my friends,” he said. “We are still a little scared that the schools will be safer for everyone, but we believe that this policy is our school team and how hard they are working.”

Monday will be a simple day, with lots of conversations, Al-Areibi said.

“I have a lot of work planned to do to restore that relationship.”
