no Thiebaud died December 25, at the age of 101. He was one of America’s foremost experts, if not his name then with his colorful paintings of hot dogs, pies, gumball machines, ice cream jars, and cakes and waves and snow waves. Thiebaud did more than just taste good. He was a great artist and photographer and looked after the landscape and appearance of the cities.

He was the one I call a zaftik artist. That is the correct and correct word is one of my few Yiddish texts. In German, of water means “quickly,” but his prisoner cousin points to the word
