Sergi Canos will play against Liverpool ‘unless someone cuts his leg off’

Thomas Frank says everyone at Brentford is looking forward to Sunday’s trip to Liverpool and has confirmed that Sergi Canos should meet his former club.

The Wing-back Canos bounced back from a stomach injury Tuesday when they lost 4-1 to Southampton, but were forced to raise doubts about his chances of appearing at Anfield too late.

The Spaniard moved to Merseyside as a teenager in 2013 but played only once for the Reds to West Brom at the end of the 2015-16 campaign, before leaving for Liverpool to work for England and the Bees through a short span of time. Norwich.

“Yes, Sergi should be present. He was taught today that it was good,” Frank confirmed Friday.

“I think that unless someone cuts his leg, he can do anything to prepare for the game, but to be honest all the players want to be in a game like this.

“This is the first time we have been to Anfield and we all know that this is one of the most famous stadiums in the world.

“We are all looking forward to that and we want to go there to talk and attack but we want it to be fun and exciting both at two and four o’clock.

“It’s not fun if we go there and be beaten 4-0. It’s very exciting if you go there, to do well and get good results, that’s what we want.”

Brentford captain Pontus Jansson hopes to secure a new contract with the club to help Frank’s side achieve some outstanding results against Liverpool after a thrilling 3-3 draw between the two teams in September.

The former Leeds players have been a regular at the Bee in the Premier League this season and have agreed a new contract until the summer of 2023 on Friday.

Frank added: “I am very happy and I think Ponto has been a very important part of our resurrection for the past three years.

“The aim of the club and in Ponto was to increase the contract. We have all been promoted to the best league in the world and we have great ambitions and we trust the team and the players but you never know how long you will climb.

Some might surprise you and make you go, ‘ah, are they so good?’ And some may even offend you.

“We wanted to see everyone, then it was a plan, and Ponto added the right fit for his contract. He has done very well for us in the Championship and has done well in the Premier League. He is a big part of the culture and leadership that compels us over the years.”

Bees boss also revealed defender Rico Henry “should be present” at Liverpool’s game just before the ankle injury.

A positive change was also given to the goals of David Raya, who suffered a knee injury in October and had to be out for four or five months.

“He’s doing very well,” Frank said of a player who seemed to be accustomed to a very good life.

“He is playing with Manu (Sotelo) now, the goalkeeper coach, on the grass one by one and also coached the first day on the grass on Monday, so this is the best.

“She had a meeting with the knee counselor yesterday and I think that was the case and it was fine. They are moving in the right direction so I hope she will soon be involved in team training.”
