Thankfully, as Michael’s health took a turn for the better, he was discharged in time for the couple to celebrate with family and friends at a lovely wedding reception, held in the Parkville Hotel, Blantyre on April 19.

Now, both 70, Michael and Anne, of Pentland Crescent in Larkhall, are happily enjoying their retirement – Anne having worked in clerical with South Lanarkshire Council and Michael at Taggart & Wilsons before running his own business.

And they were delighted to be joined by family, including their many neices and nephews whom they adore, at a Golden Wedding party back at the Parkville 50 years later last month.

When asked what their secret to such a long and happy marriage is, Anne joked: “I don’t know the secret, but after 50 years together there’s not much we haven’t argued about.

“But it’s always about nothing, we don’t take things too seriously.”

“It was brilliant to celebrate with all our family and friends and return to the Parkville, we can’t believe it’s been 50 years.”
