IFA elections: 3 new committee chairs confirmed

Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA). today (January 14) secured three new seats for its sheep, wheat and forest committees.

The results of the postal vote were announced at the actual meetings of each committee by IFA National Returning Officer, Martin Stapleton.

Each of the newly elected chairpersons will take over their role at the organization’s AGM, which is to be held individually at the end of this month.

Leitrim’s Kevin Comiskey replaces Sean Dennehy as IFA chairman Sheep Committee. He is second in command to the chairman of the committee.

Taking the top spot on Forestry Committee with Jason Fleming from Kerry; will take over from outgoing Chairman Vincent Nally.

Deputy to the chair of Seeds Committee Kieran McEvoy, a farmer in Co Laois, has been appointed to replace Mark Browne.


Yesterday (January 13), five new chairpersons of the committee were present elected.

TJ Maher from Tipperary has taken over from Pat Farrell as chairman of Animal Heart Committee. He served as vice-chairman of the same committee.

Alice Doyle, of Wexford, has been elected chair of the Family Farm Committee. Wins Caroline Farrell who completes her term.

Pa The chicken The committee, Nigel Sweetman from Cork Central IFA has been appointed to replace Andy Boylan.

The Potatoes The committee has appointed Sean Ryan from Wexford as their new chairman. He is taking over from Thomas McKeown, whose four-year term will end at the AGM.

The new chair of Hill Committee with Cáillin Conneelly from Galway. He replaced Flor McCarthy.


The new chairs will take on their responsibilities during AGM when the national treasurer will be re-elected, when Martin Stapleton’s two-year term expires.

If one doesn’t come, Stapleton looks set to earn another two years.
