GLASGOW Cross remained closed for nearly six hours due to ‘damage’ sustained at the Trongate.
Glasgow City Council roads department issued a traffic warning at around 3.35pm on Saturday that Glasgow Cross and its approach roads were closed and that they would re-open after clean-up.
This comes as hundreds of Celtic fans gathered in the area to celebrate their Premiership title win.
The Traffcom read: “Due to a large number of football fans congregating at Glasgow Cross and Trongate area road users are advised to avoid this area as roads in this vicinity are impassable.”
According to road officers, the road was reopened at around 11.20pm on Saturday night.
The traffic lights remained in darkness due to ‘sustained damage’.
The cross is a key junction taking people to the Saltmarket, Gallowgate, Argyle Street and High Street areas of the city.
The road is used by traffic accessing the M8 motorway and the nearby Glasgow Royal Infirmary from the Southside of the city.
